Black Anthology 2021: essential(s)
What is essential? Black Anthology’s mission is to explore and celebrate the lived experience and artistry of Black people. All of our pieces of Blackness—the weird ones, the non-stereotypical ones, the flawed ones, and especially the permanent ones—have a place on the stage. This play is the product of a pandemic, but it is not a pandemic play. It is a celebration of family, love, and identity, and what it means to lose them.

Black Anthology’s essential(s) will premiere on March 13th at 7pm CST and will remain available on-demand for the remainder of the weekend. The show will be free of charge. The show is the product of a pandemic, but it is not a pandemic play. This is Black Anthology’s 32nd annual production and continues the longstanding tradition of generating important dialogue on issues impacting the Black Community. Every year, Black Anthology presents work that not only Black students can sympathize with, but the production reaches across racial boundaries to touch all students, faculty, and the St. Louis community-at-large.
